The Halal Guys turned 30 years old this year and we want to celebrate! Between Monday, November 16th and Friday, November 20th, we’re commemorating our 30th Anniversary since opening a street cart in New York City in 1990. The original cart initially served hot dogs but noticed a demand for a filling, Halal-quality meal at low prices for people to enjoy and altered the menu to fill the need in 1992.
Thirty years ago, our three founders, Abdelbaset Elsayed, Mohamed Abouelenein, and Ahmed Elsaka, emigrated from Egypt to New York City to realize their dream of opening a food cart on the corner of 53rd and 6th Ave. As our CEO Ahmed Abouelenein says, “The founders never imagined that a hot dog cart would evolve into a global Halal food chain. Back then, their mission was simple: to delight customers with unparalleled hospitality and affordable, mouthwatering food.”
Now The Halal Guys is the largest American halal food concept in the world with over 90 locations in the United States, Canada, Indonesia, South Korea, and the United Kingdom. The menu all over the world still includes timeless classics such as the beef gyro, chicken, falafel, combo platter and sandwiches in addition to sides such as hummus and baba ghanoush.
As a special thank you to the brand’s passionate fans that have supported its growth and success over the course of three decades, The Halal Guys will offer a number of promotions* at participating locations during the 30th Anniversary Week beginning Monday, November 16:
- Each customer that enters a restaurant will get a free 2 ounce cup of The Halal Guys’ new, delicious hummus from 11/16 – 11/20 (U.S. and Canada only; while supplies last)
- The 30th fan to enter each store will receive one slick new The Halal Guys-branded hoodie every day while supplies last, beginning Monday 11/16
- Fans who order through The Halal Guys’ new mobile app between 11/16 and 11/20 will receive triple bonus points on every order
- On Wednesday, 11/18 only, The Halal Guys is throwing it back to 1990 and offering the iconic combo platter for the original 1990 price of $5 when ordered through The Halal Guys’ mobile app

The Halal Guys will make a $15,000 donation, on behalf of its fans, to the organization Meals on Wheels of America, to support its mission to empower local community programs to improve the health and quality of life of the seniors they serve so that no one is left hungry.
